Obama on Health to Congress: “If you misrepresent what’s in the plan, we will call you out” part 3

February 142010

The GOP propaganda machine is in full spin as operatives and hot talk stations spread lies and hysteria about items said to be found in the current House bill language of the American Affordable Health Care Act.

Talk of genocide on both ends of the life cycle are paraded down the street in a grotesque death march of wing nuts eager to drink any Kool-Aid and any lie to sabotage discussion about actual substance. Scare tactics included outrage over mandated funding for abortions and assisted suicide for those over 65.

Per a recent Kaiser Family Foundation analysis, the abortion coverage was modified significantly in committee. The Energy and Commerce Committee amendment: Prohibits abortion coverage from being required as part of the essential benefits package; and requires segregation of public subsidy funds from private premium payments for plans that choose to cover abortion services beyond Hyde—which allows coverage for abortion services to save the life of the woman and in cases of rape or incest; and require there be no effect on state or federal laws on abortions. See also the Guttmacher Report of July 22, 2009, that discusses these restrictions in the context of the insurance industry.

The genocide mandate is a considered a wild distortion of the House Bill. All manner of documentation to the contrary, Republicans try to paint a provision for suggested elderly medical counseling every five years as some Soylent Green scenario where seniors are meekly led to assisted suicide chambers.

Snopes, Media Matters, and AARP try to dispel these distorions originally forwarded by wing nut Betsy McCaughey.

Despite the facts, these same talking points of abortion funding and killing Grandpa were rebroadcast all day Friday by the vast right wing echo chamber, including Rush Limbaugh, and by the sick freak, Glenn Beck. //// The blatant and not-so blatant sabotage that’s happening in our country today regarding health care reform is nothing short of criminal. People’s lives are actually at stake and once again, people’s ignorance and lack of education and being informed is about to do us all in… The greed from our health insurance companies shouldn’t be surprising, if you’re paying attention, but it’s still astounding to me. /////////// Obama attacked “bogus claims spread by those whose only agenda is to kill reform at any cost,” addressing the so-called “death panels” and that reforms would insure illegal immigrants.

“And one more misunderstanding I want to clear up — under our plan, no federal dollars will be used to fund abortions, and federal conscience laws will remain in place,” he said.

The president said he would no longer stand for allowing gross misrepresentations to continue.

“I will not waste time with those who have made the calculation that it’s better politics to kill this plan than improve it,” Obama said. “I will not stand by while the special interests use the same old tactics to keep things exactly the way they are. If you misrepresent what’s in the plan, we will call you out. And I will not accept the status quo as a solution. Not this time. Not now.”

Obama said his plan isn’t intended to put insurance companies out of business, but a not-for-profit option would “keep insurance companies honest” by providing competition.

The public option is a government-funded, government-run health care option, similar to Medicare. Under the plan, people would pay premiums 10 percent to 20 percent less than private insurance.

That leaves the door open for Congress to come up with another option, such as a co-op or a “trigger,” in which a public option would kick in only if insurance companies fail to make reforms within a defined period.

Obama argued that a public plan wouldn’t create unfair competition for insurers because it would rely on premiums it collects rather than public funding, but would save money by avoiding overhead like administrative costs and executive salaries.

And he said his plan won’t add to the deficit because it includes a provision that requires the government to cut spending if health care savings the admnistration promises don’t materializes.

Obama also addressed seniors who have expressed concerns about the quality of care they have enjoyed being eroded by health care reform, which he said has been “subjected to demagoguery and distortion.”

“The only thing this plan would eliminate is the hundreds of billions of dollars in waste and fraud, as well as unwarranted subsidies in Medicare that go to insurance companies — subsidies that do everything to pad their profits and nothing to improve your care,” he said.

Text of Obama’s State of the Union Speech

Thats why were building a 21st century VA. And thats why Michelle has joined with Jill Biden to forge a national commitment to support military families. (Applause.)

Now, even as we prosecute two wars, were also confronting perhaps the greatest danger to the American people – the threat of nuclear weapons. Ive embraced the vision of John F. Kennedy and Ronald Reagan through a strategy that reverses the spread of these weapons and seeks a world without them. To reduce our stockpiles and launchers, while ensuring our deterrent, the United States and Russia are completing negotiations on the farthest-reaching arms control treaty in nearly two decades. (Applause.) And at Aprils Nuclear Security Summit, we will bring 44 nations together here in Washington, D.C. behind a clear goal: securing all vulnerable nuclear materials around the world in four years, so that they never fall into the hands of terrorists. (Applause.)

Now, these diplomatic efforts have also strengthened our hand in dealing with those nations that insist on violating international agreements in pursuit of nuclear weapons. Thats why North Korea now faces increased isolation, and stronger sanctions – sanctions that are being vigorously enforced. Thats why the international community is more united, and the Islamic Republic of Iran is more isolated. And as Irans leaders continue to ignore their obligations, there should be no doubt: They, too, will face growing consequences. That is a promise. (Applause.)

Thats the leadership that we are providing – engagement that advances the common security and prosperity of all people. Were working through the G20 to sustain a lasting global recovery. Were working with Muslim communities around the world to promote science and education and innovation. We have gone from a bystander to a leader in the fight against climate change. Were helping developing countries to feed themselves, and continuing the fight against HIV/AIDS. And we are launching a new initiative that will give us the capacity to respond faster and more effectively to bioterrorism or an infectious disease – a plan that will counter threats at home and strengthen public health abroad.

As we have for over 60 years, America takes these actions because our destiny is connected to those beyond our shores. But we also do it because it is right. Thats why, as we meet here tonight, over 10,000 Americans are working with many nations to help the people of Haiti recover and rebuild. (Applause.) Thats why we stand with the girl who yearns to go to school in Afghanistan; why we support the human rights of the women marching through the streets of Iran; why we advocate for the young man denied a job by corruption in Guinea. For America must always stand on the side of freedom and human dignity. (Applause.) Always. (Applause.)

Abroad, Americas greatest source of strength has always been our ideals. The same is true at home. We find unity in our incredible diversity, drawing on the promise enshrined in our Constitution: the notion that were all created equal; that no matter who you are or what you look like, if you abide by the law you should be protected by it; if you adhere to our common values you should be treated no different than anyone else.

We must continually renew this promise. My administration has a Civil Rights Division that is once again prosecuting civil rights violations and employment discrimination. (Applause.) We finally strengthened our laws to protect against crimes driven by hate. (Applause.) This year, I will work with Congress and our military to finally repeal the law that denies gay Americans the right to serve the country they love because of who they are. (Applause.) Its the right thing to do. (Applause.)

Were going to crack down on violations of equal pay laws – so that women get equal pay for an equal days work. (Applause.) And we should continue the work of fixing our broken immigration system – to secure our borders and enforce our laws, and ensure that everyone who plays by the rules can contribute to our economy and enrich our nation. (Applause.)

Obama on Health to joint session of Congress ‘No one should go broke because they got sick’ part 1

January 222010

The blatant and not-so blatant sabotage that’s happening in our country today regarding health care reform is nothing short of criminal. People’s lives are actually at stake and once again, people’s ignorance and lack of education and being informed is about to do us all in… The greed from our health insurance companies shouldn’t be surprising, if you’re paying attention, but it’s still astounding to me. //////// President Obama told Congress on Wednesday that while he is not the first president to take up the cause of health care reform, “I am determined to be the last.” ////////////
Hey, this is too good not to share! – Forward and/or print this and give to anyone who doubts the public option in
healthcare.///

This morning I was awoken by my alarm clock powered by socialist electricity
generated by the public power monopoly regulated by the US Department of
Energy. I then took a shower in the socialist clean water provided by the
municipal water utility. After that, I turned on the socialist radio to one
of the FCC regulated channels to hear what the socialist National Weather
Service of the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration
determined the weather was going to be like using socialist satellites
designed, built, and launched by the National Aeronautics and Space
Administration. I watched this while eating my breakfast of socialist US
Department of Agriculture inspected food and taking the socialist drugs
which have been determined as safe by the Food and Drug Administration.

At the appropriate time as kept accurate by the socialist National Institute
of Standards and Technology and the US Naval Observatory, I get into my
socialist National Highway Traffic Safety Administration approved automobile
and set out to work on the socialist roads build by the socialist local,
state, and federal departments of transportation, possibly stopping to
purchase additional fuel of a quality level determined by the socialist
Environmental Protection Agency, using socialist legal tender issued by the
Federal Reserve Bank. On the way out the door I deposit any mail I have to
be sent out via the socialist US Postal Service and drop the kids off at the
socialist public school. If I get lost, I can use my socialist GPS
navigation technology developed by the United States Department of Defense
and made available to the public in 1996 by President Bill Clinton who
issued a policy directive declaring socialist GPS to be a dual-use
military/civilian system to be managed as a national socialist asset. After spending another day not being maimed or killed at work thanks to the
socialist workplace regulations imposed by the Department of Labor and the
Occupational Safety and Health Administration, enjoying another two meals
which again do not kill me because of the socialist USDA, I drive my
socialist NHTSA car back home on the socialist DOT roads, to my house which
has not burned down in my absence because of the socialist state and local
building codes and socialist fire marshal’s inspection, and which has not
been plundered of all it’s valuables thanks to the socialist local police
department.
I then get on my computer and use the socialist internet which was developed
by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Administration and browse the
socialist World Wide Web using my graphical web browser, both made possible
by Al Gore’s socialist High Performance Computing and Communication Act of
1991. I then post on freerepublic.com and fox news forums about how
SOCIALISM in medicine is BAD because the government can’t do anything right.

Good morning.

Yesterday, we received another painful reminder of the serious economic challenge our country is facing when we learned that 533,000 jobs were lost in November alone, the single worst month of job loss in over three decades. That puts the total number of jobs lost in this recession at nearly 2 million.

But this isnt about numbers. Its about each of the families those numbers represent. Its about the rising unease and frustration that so many of you are feeling during this holiday season. Will you be able to put your kids through college? Will you be able to afford health care? Will you be able to retire with dignity and security? Will your job or your husbands job or your daughters or son’s job be the next one cut?

These are the questions that keep so many Americans awake at night. But it is not the first time these questions have been asked. We have faced difficult times before, times when our economic destiny seemed to be slipping out of our hands. And at each moment, we have risen to meet the challenge, as one people united by a sense of common purpose. And I know that Americans can rise to the moment once again.

But we need action and action now. That is why I have asked my economic team to develop an economic recovery plan for both Wall Street and Main Street that will help save or create at least two and a half million jobs, while rebuilding our infrastructure, improving our schools, reducing our dependence on oil, and saving billions of dollars.

We wont do it the old Washington way. We wont just throw money at the problem. Well measure progress by the reforms we make and the results we achieve — by the jobs we create, by the energy we save, by whether America is more competitive in the world.

Today, I am announcing a few key parts of my plan. First, we will launch a massive effort to make public buildings more energy-efficient. Our government now pays the highest energy bill in the world. We need to change that. We need to upgrade our federal buildings by replacing old heating systems and installing efficient light bulbs. That wont just save you, the American taxpayer, billions of dollars each year. It will put people back to work.

Second, we will create millions of jobs by making the single largest new investment in our national infrastructure since the creation of the federal highway system in the 1950s. Well invest your precious tax dollars in new and smarter ways, and well set a simple rule use it or lose it. If a state doesnt act quickly to invest in roads and bridges in their communities, theyll lose the money.

Third, my economic recovery plan will launch the most sweeping effort to modernize and upgrade school buildings that this country has ever seen. We will repair broken schools, make them energy-efficient, and put new computers in our classrooms. Because to help our children compete in a 21st century economy, we need to send them to 21st century schools.

As we renew our schools and highways, well also renew our information superhighway. It is unacceptable that the United States ranks 15th in the world in broadband adoption. Here, in the country that invented the internet, every child should have the chance to get online, and theyll get that chance when Im President because thats how well strengthen Americas competitiveness in the world.

In addition to connecting our libraries and schools to the internet, we must also ensure that our hospitals are connected to each other through the internet. That is why the economic recovery plan Im proposing will help modernize our health care system and that wont just save jobs, it will save lives. We will make sure that every doctors office and hospital in this country is using cutting edge technology and electronic medical records so that we can cut red tape, prevent medical mistakes, and help save billions of dollars each year.

These are a few parts of the economic recovery plan that I will be rolling out in the coming weeks. When Congress reconvenes in January, I look forward to working with them to pass a plan immediately. We need to act with the urgency this moment demands to save or create at least two and a half million jobs so that the nearly two million Americans whove lost them know that they have a future. And thats exactly what I intend to do as President of the United States.

Thanks for listening.
