Was it arrogant of the minority party in Congress to try to write the health care bill?
July 52010
Despite backing off from a public option and the lure of a carrot in the form of a tort reform Republicans still refused to support it. They claimed Democrats hadn’t backed off from enough points. Then claimed they were ‘locked out’ of the process because their proposals weren’t being considered. In short; they wanted to write the health care bill themselves.
Wasn’t it rather cheeky of the minority party in congress to try to basically write health care reform on their own terms?
yep…
"do everything I ask or I will cry ‘partisanship’"…
Obama did away with the public option for them… a HUGE STEP… and they cry like he passed it with the public option…

We had to drop the public option in order to get all Democrats on board. Many more moderate Democrats might have opposed it.
This healthcare bill is basically the best we could have come up with given the makeup of our Congress.

It was arrogant to pass the health care bill by reconciliation, when the Senate knew they could secure the 60 votes needed to pass it by standard (appropriate) means. Nor could Congress get this bill passed when they had the filibuster-proof supermajority.
Washington is full of arrogance.

No, any Senator or Congressman can try to introduce any bill to the floor. Introducing bills to the floor usually does not require a majority, it requires a majority to PASS the bill and send it to the other body.

Maybe it’s more arrogant that Obama could barely push it down our throats even WITH all the bribes in the bill. Funny how he couldn’t even convince his own party the bill is good.

The GOP wrote their own bill after people like you accused them of not having a health care plan. I guess Republicans can’t win.

Are you hoping to blame the problems with the policy on Republicans?
Be sure to limit your criticism to the ones who voted in favor of the bill.

Is it arrogant to rewrite history. Please go back and review what happened during the Health care reform legislation period. The Democrats had to change the bill in order to get their own constituents on board, even with all of the payoffs they couldn’t get it done. The Democrats failed to secure enough votes even from their own party. Of course when the Senators went home in August and ran smack into their own voters, their decision became even harder.
