Congress Should be Required to Enroll in Obamacare – Do you think this is true?

June 152010

By Michelle Malkin • July 15, 2009 03:18 PM

If socialized medicine is good enough to force on American taxpayers, it’s good enough for Congress. I like this House resolution from Rep. John Fleming requiring lawmakers in Washington to enroll in any government-run health plan it decides to foist on the rest of us.

Read and sign the petition supporting House Resolution 615 here (http://www.fleming.house.gov/):

Over the past few weeks, members of Congress and the American people have come to know the details of the Administration’s proposed health care plan. Call it whatever you like, this proposal is nothing more than government-run health care. As a physician, I am amazed at the number of bureaucrats in this House who are quick to claim a government-run health care plan is the reform this country needs. In response to this, I have offered a resolution that will offer members of Congress an opportunity to put their money where their mouth is, and urge their colleagues who vote for legislation creating a government-run health care plan to lead by example and enroll themselves in the same public plan.

Under the current draft of the Democrat healthcare legislation, members of Congress are curiously exempt from the government-run health care option, keeping their existing health plans and services on Capitol Hill. If Members of Congress believe so strongly that government-run health care is the best solution for hard working American families, I think it only fitting that Americans see them lead the way. Public servants should always be accountable and responsible for what they are advocating, and I challenge the American people to demand this from their representatives.

If you agree with me, sign our online petition below and together we will work to ensure that any plan that is good enough is for American families is good enough for every member of Congress.

http://michellemalkin.com/2009/07/15/congress-should-be-required-to-enroll-in-obamacare/

I agree that if there is to be a socialized health-care system that it should be equitable, meaning… that the same benefits and/or restrictions should apply to everyone across the board.

What ever happens, all I know is that it NEEDS to happen! The cost of health care in this country is out of control! My insurance is going to raise their rates by 22% next month! TWENTY TWO percent! That is a lot of money! While at the same time, the top executives of these insurance companies are doubling their salaries and taking HUGE bonuses AND laying off employees!
It is at the point where the average person AND employers are no longer able to afford the cost!
As a doctor, you of all people should know that if some one can not afford a procedure, treatment or the meds they NEED to survive, they will have to do without, and in some cases this can lead to a worsening of a condition or even death! How many patients have you treated that have stiffed you on the bill? Do you think this is because they are just tight wads who don’t want to pay or could it be that they simply CAN"T AFFORD to pay? Is proper health care only for the rich or are the poor and WORKING poor entitled to health care as well?
Again, I agree that whatever bill that is passed should be equitable, but instead of splitting hairs and clouding things up shouldn’t we get something passed soon so those who need care can get it? We can always work the "bugs" out once the ball is rolling!

No Rush

Dear Health Insurance Lobby,

Normally I wouldn’t do you any favors…but did you what Congress is saying?

They just told President Obama they couldn’t possibly get work done on health care reform before September…at the earliest

But you see what they’re doing, don’t you?

I mean – your paying $1.4 million a day in lobbyist money

And if Congress actually VOTED

That money would stop…

So – this is what the kids call ‘getting played’

So why not join us and tell Congress – we’ve waited long enough for health care reform.

All I Want From Congress

“All I Want From Congress” Lyrics

I don’t want a lot from Congress…
So many folks are in need…

I don’t care to have a handout.

Sick and tired of corporate greed.
Please don’t listen to the fringe.
Or pass a bill that makes us cringe.
We need you too…

Senate this is what we elected you to do….

I could use a job dear Congress.
So could all the others in need.
We can do better than the presents with one that helps the whole Country.
i don’t need an explanation of why we have to compromise.
Bet they wont’ really filibuster
I see fear in Ensign’s eyes.
We want real reform to pass.
A milestone that is sure to last.
Make our wish come true!
Senate this is what we elected you.
To do.

I won’t ask much from Congress
don’t want the deficit to grow.
Can’t afford to wait much longer.
Keep sending things to the CBO!
I made a short list and I sent it to Nelson, Landrieu, and ol’ Joe.
The catastrophic plan when you wrote, won’t get me to the gyno.
Cause I don’t think it asks for much to say we all deserve coverage.
I know this much is true…
Congress this is why we elected you.
Yeah

Oh Mr. Lieberman you’ve become a Grinch.
You almost lost your seat but this is quite a stink.
31 Million People
31 Million People
Joe it’s not too late to stop blocking the debate.
Do the right thing for the Country.

Oh I’ve got news for you dear congress. News that you just have to hear. If this bill ends up far from perfect we’ll just have to come on back next year. So pass a bill but don’t be mistaken cause our efforts will not be forsaken. Why wait another year?

Congress this is why we elected you.
