I guess liberals don’t read the constitution, because if they did they would realize it’s Congress, not the President, who holds the purse strings.
Cons seem to believe that if you repeat something over and over it becomes true.
The president proposes a budget in the State of the Union Speech. Congress comes up with the budget, then the president signs or vetoes it. Reagan and both Bushes, none of them ever proposed a balanced budget. None of them ever refused to sign a budget because it was too big. Clinton did.
In fact Clinton went head-to-head against the Republican Congress and allowed the govt. to shut down because he refused to sign a budget with too much deficit spending in it. Newt Gingrich tried to blame Clinton, but polls showed that most Americans blamed the Repubs. in Congress.
During Reagan’s 8 years, I think the Democratic Congress delivered a smaller budget than Reagan proposed every one of those years. I could be wrong, but I think so. Look it up!
Since Reagan, Republicans only care about debt and deficits when there’s a Democrat in the White House. Republican presidents run as budget hawks–Reagan and both Bushes ran on promises to balance the budget. But once in office they behave as if debt simply doesn’t matter. It’s just incredibly hypocritical for them to get all outraged at Obama’s deficits. And it’s dishonest to say they are the biggest in history. But then it’s only dishonest to lie if you know you’re lying, and how would you know if you only listen to Fox News? 8^P
