Every time someone says something about the economy of the deficit surplus during the Clinton years the Republicans say it was not his doing it was the Republican control congress. So my question is why did the Republican control congress taxes?

One of Clinton’s major policy initiatives in his first term was on the American economy. Clinton’s economic plan included a major expansion of the existing Earned Income Tax Credit, aimed at working class families just above the poverty line, which helped ensure that it made sense for them to work rather than seek welfare. John F Harris, argues that "this would be prove to be one of the most important and tangible progressive achievements of the Clinton years".
A major problem with the economy at the time was the issue of the massive deficit and the problem of government spending. In order to address these issues, in August 1993, Clinton signed the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1993 which passed Congress without a single Republican vote. It raised taxes on the wealthiest 1.2% of taxpayers, while cutting taxes on 15 million low-income families and making tax cuts available to 90 percent of small businesses. Additionally, it mandated that the budget be balanced over a number of years and the deficit be reduced. This was to be achieved through the implementation of spending restraints but was not.

NOT too sure about the the earned income tax thing. A woman at work stays on welfare and can still work 27 hours a week. As long as she doesn’t go above that ..she gets free housing, free health care, free food stamps, free utilities, free everything …PLUS HER PAY. She also gets to claim that earned income tax…which puts her at the 50,000 a year mark. I work my butt off and only get half of that part time….and do NOT SUCK OFF SOCIETY! Should not be allowed. SHe had the NERVE to tell me I didn’t know how to work the system. RIGHT..I am not a parasite….SHE IS!

A Republican Congress that would apply common sense to return us to a sound basis, renew Bush’s tax cuts, and drop the unemployment rate, so by 2012 Obama could, like Clinton, claim credit for the thriving economy to be re-elected – like Clinton ?

Would he stab his partners in cr…government like that ?

He’d better want it ! It’s about to happen whether he does or not..If he doesn’t milk us dry with taxation before he’s ousted..

I mean it worked for the Democrats.

The Democratic congress wrecked the economy and then blamed it on Bush. This led to Obama being elected.

The economy has already seen it’s "wreck". Have you ever
heard the word TRILLION in regard to our deficit? That is
more $$ than most of us can even imagine. Hopefully,
the Republicans can "start" to make some inroads of
digging US back out of the mess Obama caused if he
doesn’t veto everything. Too bad he’s still in office. He will
be a stumbling block, I’m sure.

I read in local paper that the new republican congress wants to start with extending the Bush tax cuts. So will the President Bush tax cuts be permanent?

We simply can not afford tax cuts for the top 2%.

How well did the US economy after Republicans took over congress after 2 years of Democrats controlling the White House and Congress in 1994?

Did the deficit go up or down?

Did employment go up or down?

Did GDP grow or decline?

Hey now, don’t scare the conservatives with facts. All people in reality know that the Clinton years were the best this country has had in two decades.

The Republican Congress under Clinton handed him a balanced budget and a projected surplus despite his griping, stalling and obstructing, and then he took credit for it when it worked. Will Obama do the same thing?

Will Democrats credit President Obama with the success of the upcoming Republican Congress?

Tea Party train wreck

It is unbelievable how much money the republicans and their wall street buddies stole with a republican congress/white house from 2001-2006. Trillions disappeared with nothing to show for it. Absolutely unbelievable.
Obama has only spent 787 billion so far. Please get your facts straight.

These are the facts. Look at what has happened since Obama has taken office – he has (with George Bush beginning it all) doled out hundreds pf BILLIONS of dollars in the form of untraceable “bailout” money – and as icing on the cake has had passed a $3.6 TRILLION “budget” that is absolutely sure to bankrupt the country and cause irreparable damage to the financial prosperity of many future generations to come. And to even top that off – he is planning on universal government paid for health care – without even considering who will pay for it and how it will be paid.

Congress is completely out of control and out of touch – we must rid the government of these elitist, fascist and arrogant individuals – and we the taxpayers must use whatever means necessary – the future of America and your children’s America is at stake. If I could be in charge, I would reduce the size of government by 90%. There is SO MUCH waste and fraud in government that it would be easy to slash the Federal government down to size – we just need someone in there who is actually a REAL American – who understands our history and what this country was founded on. o_O

All Dems will have to do is campaign against "Obama and the Republican congress" for the 2012 election.

Why would you expect them to get better
there will still be plenty of Dem’s to screw things up
Republicans will only be able to stop it from getting worse.
